Here I would love to share with you our travels and adventures as international mushroom consultants. MEMOIRS about husband Pieter Vedder, who was a SCIENTIFIC PIONEER in Mushroom Cultivation Education. {Our Sherwood White Azaleas}

Some more photos from our garden, taken on March 13. Near the huge oak tree that is adjacent to the driveway we planted several Sherwood White Azaleas (right click to open). They are lovely and for just a week it is like white magic. The last photo, taken on March 18 shows them already browning. The end of the 2012 fairy tale...
With just the right light at 6:20 PM they look so beautiful...
Around our huge, old oak tree with its special bark. In the back you can still see the new bridge over the creek into the wood garden with its new walking trail, lined with mondo grasses. Pieter has been very active this spring!
Here you also see the road... Our garden stretches over a length of 200m along the road-side.
On March 18, the show is over... browning starts.
To the left you can see in our wood garden the pink showcase of our Apalachian red bud (Cercis Canadensis).
Whenever the one starts wilting, the next one is at its peak!

So what do you take? Tea or Coffee with cake in the gazebo after we've completed the Garden Tour?

{3rd United States President & Founding Father, Thomas Jefferson, was born on April 2, 1743. O.S.}

On April 2, 1743 O.S. Thomas Jefferson was born.
O.S. standing for Old Style, read below...

By American painter Jean Leon Gerome Ferris (1863-1930) wikimedia.org.

Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, and Thomas Jefferson (left to right) draft the Declaration of Independence in 1776.
Thomas Jefferson was an American Founding Father who was the principal author of the United States Declaration of Independence (1776).
Thomas Jefferson also became the United States 3rd President, look here: wikipedia.org.

Did you notice the words O.S. behind the birth year?
The initials O.S. is for Old Style.
In 1752 the Julian Calendar changed into the Gregorian Calendar.

Julius Caesar started the Julian Calendar 45 B.C. and the New Style or Gregorian Calendar came about in 1752.

{Our New Spiraea Cantoniensis (dbl Bridal Wreath Spirea)}

  • Last year I did a post about: Our Cornus Kousa (Japanese Dogwoods) & Spiraea Cantoniensis (dbl Bridal Wreath Spirea) ←(right click it) with quite some lush flowers of the Spiraea Cantoniensis or double Bridal Wreath Spirea
  • So let me show you first a photo from last year to get the idea. This is because this year's blossoms were not even one third of what we had last year. Again, the toll we paid for the extreme hot and dry summer.

  • This was such a perfect mass of flowers on our Spiraea Cantoniensis or double Bridal Wreath Spirea in 2011.
  • Like a dream and almost looking like flowers of the lilac!

  • This is our new little 'baby' that we've planted this spring. We bought it in Baxley, Georgia at County Farm Plant Co., Inc.
  • They are on Facebook: County- Farm Plant-Co We went there on Sunday, March 11 with our best friend.
  • Quite a discovery this nursery with 42 greenhouses that look so meticulous and with the healthiest plants, shrubs and trees you can wish for.
  • All of you lucky Georgians, you can go there. They're open 7 days a week!

  • No doubt, this little baby will do well. It is planted beside the gazebo, where also the Scilla Campanulata bloom.
  • Have you planted any new shrubs this spring?
  • Do you also prefer as many white flowers as we do?
